From Trauma Vectors to Authentic Agency
Authorship is the return of agency after trauma. The person understands how their trauma vectors function, where they activate, how to recognize them, and how to deactivate them. Choice replaces automatic defense.
Core movements
Accurate attribution — Harm is placed at its true source rather than turned into self-blame.
Signal reading — Triggers become information about where attention is needed.
Reorientation — Old conclusions are updated with present-day evidence and self-empathy.
Choice — Fight, flight, freeze, or fawn no longer dictate the entire response.
Cross-pollination — New behavior begins migrating across work, relationships, family, and community.
Range — Life gets bigger: more rest, pleasure, creativity, exploration, and meaningful contact.
Clinical markers
More openness and less hijacking by the body
Greater ability to categorize harm accurately
Expansion beyond the old life and old patterns
Purpose and meaning that feel self-generating
The person becomes easier to feel: more alive, clear, and authentic
What the therapist supports
Locate the vector → name the conditions → restore the interrupted developmental sequence → practice new choice → reinforce success across settings.
What becomes possible
The individual is no longer organized by fear, obligation, or inherited expectation. They can witness life, respond with agency, protect what matters, and move closer to their authentic self.
